Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy outlines how JHC Law Corporation (“we”, “our”, or “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal information in accordance with the British Columbia Personal Information Protection Act and other applicable privacy laws. The Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of British Columbia governs how organizations, including our law firm, collect, use, retain, safeguard, and disclose personal information. "Personal Information" refers to any data pertaining to an identifiable individual.

At JHC Law Corporation, we are dedicated to delivering outstanding service to our clients. In order to provide such service, it is necessary to collect, use, and disclose certain personal information that relate to our retainer and to the representation of our clients.

Safeguarding the confidentiality of our clients’ personal information remains a top priority for our firm. We are committed to protecting your personal information in line with PIPA. This Privacy Policy describes how we keep your data accurate, confidential, and secure, and explains your right to access and correct your personal details.

Collection of Personal Information

We collect personal information from clients, potential clients, and other individuals as required to provide legal services and operate our firm. The types of personal information we collect may include, but are not limited to:

  • name;
  • date of birth;
  • contact information (email, phone number, address);
  • employment and financial information;
  • relationship information; and
  • documents related to the legal matter.

We will only collect client information that is necessary to fulfill the following purposes:

  • verify identity;
  • open and manage files;
  • provide and maintain service quality; and
  • meet regulatory requirements.

By retaining JHC Law Corporation for legal advice or representation, clients consent to our collection, use or disclosure of their personal information.

Consent may be granted verbally, in writing, electronically, or through an authorized representative. It may also be implied when the intended use of personal information is apparent, and the client voluntarily provides such information for that specific purpose. Furthermore, implied consent can occur if a client receives notice and a reasonable opportunity to opt out of the use of his or her personal data, yet chooses not to opt out.

Lawyers must follow strict rules to protect personal and confidential information, especially those concerning solicitor-client privilege. JHC Law Corporation will not share personal details unless clients give clear or implicit permission. If a client’s information appears in court documents, agreements, or materials prepared by the firm, we consider that as express consent for release. We also assume consent when providing relevant information to experts or consultants working for or on behalf of the client.

PIPA also authorizes JHC Law Corporation to collect, use, or disclose an individual's personal information without consent in certain situations.

JHC Law Corporation will take reasonable steps to ensure personal information is accurate and complete whenever it is collected, used, or disclosed.

Clients generally have the right to withhold or withdraw their consent for organizations to use their personal information, unless specific exceptions apply – such as when the information is essential for providing a service or product, or when withdrawing consent would prevent the organization from fulfilling a legal obligation. Choosing not to provide or to retract consent may limit our ability to offer certain legal services. In these cases, we will clarify the circumstances to help clients make informed decisions. If a client nonetheless withdraws consent for collecting, keeping, or using personal information, JHC Law Corporation may choose to stop representing them.
